LABOUR MATTERS
PORTUGUESE STRIKE OVER,
(By Cable—Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association.) LISBON, October 10. Tho country is now calm, and tho railways are resuming their ordinary running. A WATERFRONT TROUBLE. (Received October lltli, 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 11. The Transport Federation is convening a conference of all unions in the Federation, stating that the reply received from Mr Hughes in connexion with the request for the abolition of the Labour Bureau on tho waterfront is unsatisfactory, and the only course open to the executive is to carry out the mandate of tho Federation, as all efforts to avert a crisis have been unavailing. The movement is directed more against oversea shipping than coastal, though, in the event of trouble, all services, and the coal supply, may be affected.
