The Mayor stated at the meeting of the City Council last night that tho matter of the regulation of traffic, both pedestrian and vehicular, was at present receiving attention. The pedestrian traffic in Christchurch was still carried on in a haphazard manner, and only, that day he saw two men nearly run over, in the Square—one by a cab and one by a car. The rule of the footpath and of the road seemed to conUise somo people, and lie hoped that tho Bv-laws Committee would do somethin"* in the way of securing a better regulation. It was as necessary to organise and. regulate pedestrian traffic j,s vehicular. In Auckland, some provision -was now being made, and safety zones were marked out for pedestrians from which all wheeled traffic was proiiibited.
