EANGIOEA. • The monthly mooting , 01 tho liangiara County Council was held on IViday. Present —Mr P. Horrell (chairman) and Councillors A. Mclntosh, \V. Stalker, H. Garrett, M. H. Stokes, a-nd 11. Tallott. Tho Minister of Internal Affairs wrote stating' fhat an amendment would be mado this session so that local bodiee could combine . for the purpoeo of erecting war memorials, and suggesting that the matter should bo held over for the present. ' It was resolved that tho clerk be authori iscd to proceed with tho construction, of tho ; honours board for tho county. ' Air D. Jones, M.P., wroto stating that he had interviewed the Minister of Public "Works with reference to an increased grant for Pcrrin'3 Ford bridge, which the Minister promised to consider. . Tho Kaiapoi Borough Council wroto with reference to arranging a joint meeting, of the two Councils with Mr Toogood to consider the proposed bridge acros3 the Cam. The matter of arranging a meeting was loft in the hands of the clerk. It was resolved to support tho Canterbury Progress League in their efforts to induce the G-svemment to C3tivblish a fe'chooi of Forestry in connexion with Canterbury College. It was also resolved to support tho Lcaguo in urging (he Government to push on the Hiley scheme in connexion with tho port, and also to iorward a. telegram to the | Prime Minister in support of the proposal. Mr M. 0. Orman-dy asking tho Council to shingle Lethmanr road, and it was resolved to reply that the Council would keep the road in order, but thafc tho traffic at tho present timo did not warrant such an espensa It was resolved that the caitle Tangcr be instructed to prosecute owners of stock grazing on tho roads. The financial 6tatement showed receipts £256 Is 6d, loan account £2500, bank credit balance £1494 12a 7d. MALVEEN.

At the monthly meeting of the Malvern County Council all members were present. Mr Knight was in the chair.' Two tertdora were accepted for water-race cleaning between Coalgato and Greendalo. Tho Council's! solicitors ■vrrote, stating that (he appeal of Mr P. Morrison against the decision of tho Council to alter the race leading to his property, had been ■withdrawn. Tho plan of the race, as advertised, will now bo-shown on. £ho water-race map. Tho schemo for reorganisation was fully discussed, nnd an increase in tho staffs salaries made from the let September. The matter of appointing an overseer for outside/ •work was deferred, pending further considerfction. <

Mr Sandxey brought up tho question o£ the thorn dippipgs left by the Railway De- C paxtmont oa tho roadside b«twocn Templeton n md Weedons, and the annoyance caused by these to eheep drovers. The clerk was instructed to write to the Railway Engineer to ' isk if ho would have tho -thorns burnt.
