Brown vOamaru) arc staying at t.he Clarendon. The St. Saviour's Girls' Club (Sydenham) gave a very successful dance recently. The chaperons were Mesdames W. P. Hughes and W. A. Griffiths. M. Haslett, who died in '' Christchiirch on Friday night, was the wifo of Mr T. M. Haslett, National Religious Work Director of the Y.M.C.A. She was well known to a large number of University students throughout Ne.w Zealand as Miss Jessie Abernethey, M.A., late travelling secretary of the Christian Union,- prior to which she was one of tho teacners at the Wanganui Girls' High School. Mr and Mrs Haslett had been married only a few months. Mi«s 'Dahl has completed her training in St. Helen's Hospital, Dunedin, and at the "Wellington Hospital, and is now entering the San Francisco General Hospital for post-graduate training for surgical theatre experience. Out of five applications from different parts of the Dominion, Miss Sylvia Brown, of Waiapu Hospital, Tokofnaru Bay, has been appointed to the position of "matron of the Nelson hospital, rendered vacant by the resignation of Miss Hurst. Miss Brown has had twelve years' experience, and 'among the npj pointments held were charge- sister at J "Waiptikui-au Hospital (8.8.\ ;inil ,sjs- | ter-in-charge women's and children's ! ward, Timaru Hospital. The wedding was solemnised - at St. J'ohn'is Church, Wellington, of Miss Gladys Ebbett, third daughter of Mrs Ebbet't, Kelburn, and Mr A.'Llewellyn Clarke, son of the late Mr and Mrs R. J. Clarke, Christchurch. The Rev. Mi" Burridge was tho officiating minister. The bride, who.was given away by her brother, Mr L. Ebbett, was in white crepe de chine and georgette, with silver trimmings. Her toilet was completed by a veil and orange blossoms, and she carried, a beautiful sheaf of arum lilies. There were two bridesmaids, ' Miss Dorothy Ebbett ; in lemon silk net over lemon satin, with black georgette hat and lemon streamers, and Miss Gwen Duncan, of Napier, who wore saxe blue silk" net over .blue satin," with black georgette hat and blue streamers. Each carried posies of lemon and blue flowers with long streamers. Mr W. Sealv, of I Christchurch, was best man, and Mr N. O. Ebbett was groomsman. A DOUBLE WEDDING. A very interesting' function took place at St. Ita's Church, Rakaia, on Wednesday, October 6th, the occasion being a double wedding. Miss Catherine Brosnan, third daughter of Mr Timothy Brosnan, late of "Fairview, , Timaru, was married to Mr Daniel Brosnan, second son of Mr Timothy Brosnan, of "Rosebrook," Timaru. Though of the same name, the two families represented were not related in any way. Miss Nora Brosnan, fourth daughter ot Mr Timothy Brqsnan, and sister of Miss Catherine Brosnan, was married "to Mr Matthew Coffey, of Mayfield, third son of tho late Mr Denis Coffey, of Temuka. The officiating priest was the Rev. Father Price. Misses Agnes and Margaret Brosnan, sisters of the brides, made charming bridesmaids, and Mr John Brosnan and Mr William Coffey attended their respective brothers as groomsmen. The two brides, who were given away by their father, looked very sweet in their navy blue costumes, hats to match. The bridesmaids also wore navy blue. After the ceremony a breakfast was given at, the home" of Mrs J. Lawler, sister of the brides. The happy couples, amidst the rejoicing of their friends, left by tfhe express for a torn , in the North Island.

CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS BALL. A children's fancy dress ball was held in the Sumner Town Hall on Friday evening in. aid of the Sumner School Carnival. The function was a combined effort, and the three divisions were well represented, a large number of parents and friends attending to witness the proceedings. Tho costumes were most interesting, and a very jolry evening ■was spent.
