Mr W. H. Hagger (Conciliation Commissioner) leaves for Dnnedin to-day.

Mr W. G. McDonald, chairman of the Board of Trade, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday.

Mr and Mrs W. H. Tisdall, and Miss Tisdall, of Opawa, who left in, August last year, on a visit to England, returned to Christchurch on Saturday.

The recognition of the appointment of Mr W. H. Cheesman as acting ViceConsul of Sweden at Christchurch is gazetted, also the appointment of Mr C. J. Cooper as Vice-Uoneul of the Netherlands at Christchurch.

At the Masterton Metihodist quarterly meeting, held last week, the ilev. J. Cocker (formerly of Christchurch) was unanimously invited to remain as superintendent minister of the circuit for a third year.

Tlip Right Rev. C. W. Carrington, Deau of Christchurch, who has been acting as Commissary for Bishop Julius during his Lordship's absence in England, and Mrs Carrington, intend leaving on a visit to England early in the New Year.

Bishop Julius, who has been attending tuo Lambeth Conference, and Miss Julius, leave England this month on their return to the .Dominion. They will break their journey and spend some time with old friends in Australia-. His Lordship and Miss Julius are expected to reach Christchurch in January. \

Major W. A. <G. Penlington, Director of Vocational Training, has returned from a visit of inspection to the vocational training centres in the Otago district. To-day, accompanied by Lieutenant H. C. Fenton, District Vocational Officer, Major Penlington leaves for Hanmer Springs. He will inspect tho Cashmere Military Sanatorium on Thursday, and leave for Wellington the same evening.

Tho following appointments to the staff of his Excellency the GovernorGeneral have been gazetted: Captain Arthur Randolph "Wormeley Curtis, M.C. (11th Hussars), to bn private secretary; Mr Albert Cecil Day, C.8.E., to be official secretary.; Captain Pierrepont Rodney Miller Mundy, D.5.0., 31 .C (South Wales Borderers), to be aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Robert Gordon Southey, M.C. (Royal Field Artillery) to be aide-de-camp.

At the invitation of the executive of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Journalists' Association, Messrs W. W. Xhinstervillp and li. R. T. Spanjer attended the executive meeting on Saturday evening, when presentations were made to them. These two gentlemen, who for many years have been associated with daily journalism in Christchurch, have recently left the newspaper world to embark.upon other activities. Both had been connected witih the branch as executive officers. Mr Dunsterville was presented with a pipe and tobacco pouch, and Mr Spanjer received a fountain pen and pocket wallet. In making the presentations, Mr W. G. Atack, president of tho branch, spoke in high terms of the services of the two journalists to the Association, and of their ability in newspaper work. Messrs Dunstervillo and Spanjer suitably acknowledged the gifts.
