It is authoritatively stated that tho j negotiations between Mr K. Shidehara, Japanese Ambassador to the United Slates, and the American Ambassador, Mr Roland S. Morris, regarding Oalifenra's anti-Japaneso legislation, havo proceeded without a hitch, and there is cvory prospect of an amicable settlement. • It is indicated thnt either a new treaty with J;ipan will be negotiated, or the existing treaty amended to establish, beyond question, the right of Japanese nnt'onals residing in the United States to own or transfer land nnd equal treatment with the nationals of all ether countries with whi'h the United Stated has treaty relations. Jap:in, on her part, would agree to a new "gentleman's agreement" fiflort'ng the immigration of J:\p'ineso labourers into tho United States.
