There was o shortage of coal-handlers on the water-front yesterday, although there was a. surplus of general cargo men. Tha following is approximately tno numbers- engaged on the different vesjels:—Trewellaid 4S, Kiso Maru 48. Jinju Maru 48, Mamari 50, Canopus 32, Maori 18, Te Anau 36, Wakatu 8. In addition the Union Company had V2O men engaged in bunkering various vessels. The Trewellard is to leave Lyttelton to-day for Dunedin and Australian ports. Mr D. McCaig, chief engineer of the Maori, Iras gone on holiday leave, and is being relieved by Mr Basrio, late of the Maheno. ; The Koromiko, which left on Tuesday, is now to go to Dunedin direct, where she vrill land 2600 tons of coal for the Railway Department. She will later come to Lyttelton-'to discharge general cargo. The Wanaka has been delayed at Auckland by shed' congestion', and is now to leave on Saturday. She should he here on Monday night. The Kokiri is to load timber and coal'*t Greymouth this week for Lyttelton. The Kurow, from Newcastle, via Wellington, is now due here on Tuesday next. . The Te Anau could not complete her loading here yesterday, and is to ,b© despatched to-day for Nauier and Gisborne. The Port Napier, from New York, via Auckland and Wellington, is due here this morning to discharge 1700 tons of cargo. Mr A. R. Pryde, late chief officer of the Ygakuta, who has been appointed wharfinger for the Blackball Coal Company at Lyttelton, has takj.i up his now duties. Mr A. R. Cant, who has been acting for some six months in that capai-ily, is to transfer to Wellinsrton as assistant wharfinger for the Blackball Company—a position that haa been vacant for the past eighteen months.
