PRINTING TRADE AWARD.
QUESTION REFERRED TO LAW OFFICERS OF CROWN.
(special to "the PRESS.")
WELLINGTON, October 6
Mr E. J. Howard asked in the House of Representatives to-day why the issue of tho award in the printing trade had been delayed. The award had been made on September 13th, and it had been stated since then that the master printers had decided not to comply with the award. Mr Howard added that tho increased rates in the award were retrospective to May, in. accordance with, an agreement between the parties. Sir William Herries replied that the award contained something that she Labour Department considered to be ultra vires. The question had been referred to the law officers of the Crown, who could say whether or not the Board had power to make the agreement an award. He hoped the matter would be settled within a day or two. He would be only too glad to issue the award.
