REPATRIATION.
OANTEEBUSY BOARD.
Tho Canterbury District Repatriation Board met yesterday. Present—Messrs A. P. Drayton (chairman), A. W. Jamieson, W. Goss, P. Davidson, W. E. Leadley, H. S. J. Goodman, F. T. Eldridge, J. Clarke, and F. W. Hobbs. , ~ _ ■ . , It was reported that 27 applications had. been dealt with for- assistance to purchase furniture, five being declined and 22 granted. Soventeen applications had been received by the Trades, Tools, and Equipment Committee, 13 being recommended, two declined, and two held over. Twelve new cases had been dealt with by tho Educational and Vocational Committee, all being recommended. Ten men hed completed tho first year of their training, and tho payment of the retained portion of their subsidy was recommended. Thirty-six applications had been received for employment during the past fortnight, and positions had been found for 10 men, leaving 17. Ten transportation cases hod been attended to. It was stated that a report received from tho motor garage proprietors with whom pertain repatriated men were receiving training, pointed out that tho period (six months) waa inadequate. A scheme, however was afoot to bring about an extension of tho period of training, and more would bo heard of it latex* . With isgard to the request of tho Comm»sioner of Crown Lands for information ioI garding T3. men, the chairman stated that I an offer had been made by a gentleman fe» dispose of a farming property at Avonhead, ! which, if accepted, would be sufficient to I settle a number of these cases.
