— * ;— Mr J. E. Henrys arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. Constable W. Almond, of Dunedin, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Christchureh. Mr Frank Oxford, of the Customs Department, left Dunedin yesterday to take up his new position as Collector of Customs at Greymouth. Mr Haydn Beck, the well-known violinist, formerly of Waneanui. has been appointed depnty r leader of the New South Wales State Orchestra. Mr Ben J. Fuller, governing director of John Fuller, Ltd., who has been on a lengthy visit to America, Great Britain, and Europe, is making a business trip through New Zealand. Ho was in Christchureh yesterday on his return from tSie South, and went North by last night's ferry steamor. Out of 68 applications .from all parts of the Dominion, Mr J. F. P. Yeatman has been appointed secretary to tho Nelson Provincial Fruitgrowers' Counoil. Mr Yeatman, who resides at Port Nelson, was during the war associated with the Munitions Department, London. A London message says Sir James Allen is visiting France for the purpose of selecting a site for a New Zealand ■ memorial near Flers. Afterwards ho j will proceed to tfhe Brussels Conference.; Mr Collins, Secretary of the Common- | wealth Treasury, and Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, of Now Zealand, were proceeding to Brussels yesterday. Sir James Allen states that the principal work of the conference is to stabilise international exchange. =====
