SUGAR WORKERS.
RESUMPTION OF WORK. FOURTEEN MEN REJECTED. (press association TELEGRAM. 1 ) AUCKLAND, September 20. Members of the Sugar-Workers' Union offered their services at the Chelsea works this morning. All but 14 were reinstated. The rejection of this number came as a surprise to the unionists, who had anticipated something of the kind, but thought ■ the rejection would* apply only to three men. The men travelled from the city across, the harbour in two boats, in company with new applicants for work in tho industry. Of the latter, six travelled on one boat along with a prominent member of the Union, with the Vesult that before Uhey reached their destination they had decided not to seek tho work they had set out to obtain, and adhered to that decision. The Union secretary stated, however, that new hands had been taken on at the works. Tfiie Union secretary stated that lio considered that the men who were rejected had not had a fair deal. The Union would not sit down to it. A meeting will probably bo called to consider tho matter.
