Jtceu interest was shown in tho various matters brought forward, &nd the advantages to sheepowners of combined action,rand efficient representation, were dwelt upon by ecveral epeakera. Preston. _ • Before closing the general meeting- and going into committee, tho secretary said that he had been asked to place beforo thoeo pre- i ssnt the motives that had actuated tho Canterbury. Sheepowners and Sheopownero' Fed- ! eration Executives in their action regarding j tho granting of a license to Messrs Amour and- Co. H© stated tbo case as put forward j by tho various bodies who are in favour of freo competition, and said that tho attitude j taken up by the esecutivo in this matter was orompted by an honest desir© to act in. tho best interests of the industry they represent. After a. full discussion on the various,. points raised, the- following resolution, propoaad by Mr* E. It. Guinness, and seconded by 3lr H. B. S. Johnstone, was carried with only two dissentients: —"Thnt this meeting j considers it essential that free competition | be allowed for our produce, and that tho | net-ion taken by the executives of the Canter- ] bury Sheepowners' Union and Sheepowners' Federation, regarding the granting of a licenee to Measrs Armour and Co. 1-e fully endorsed."
