JAPANESE TEADE,
A. BANKER'S VIEWS. . (Received August lEth. 12.5 a.m.) TOKIO, August 14. Mr Inouye, Governor of the Baik if Japan, interviewed, said that tho fivo years of war had witnessed a great change in the financial and economic situation of Japan, primarily in the re'markablo of her foreign commerce. The increase in her j 6pecie reserves had resulted in an of the bank notes in circulation, which natur*a.lly contributed to th? enhancement of in- | dustrial and business activities. _ j The imports and exports had increased to three times what they were before the war, but Japan's foreign conrmerce in the near 1 future would probably show a decrease in imports and exports, although the imports still continued hijrh, and possibly would exceed the exports for some years. Japan's merchant marine totalled 3 0"0,000 tons. The preponderance of imports over exports in tho future constituted a menace' to Japan. , , "Our pTt-war foreign concluded Mr Inouye, "were negligible. They now total about 2 200,000,000. yen. It is, therefore, inconceivable that Japanese business will be faced with the necessity of raising money to the unfavourable balance of trade, or that our s-ecie reserves will suffer too a drain, Jaran's currency systeim will be qxuto as stable as ever."
