BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WOOLSTON. The V.'oobton Borough Couucil met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr Chas. Hill), Crs. J. C. Hobson, L. Hart. H. McLachlan, G. S. TOiitc, G. 'X. Ov.-eu, \V. R. Blazey, D. Meßae. J. L. Gant, and T. Radcliffe. Cr. G. S. White, who wae recently elected to succeed the late Cr. T. N. Champ, was welcomed by the Mayor. The report of the Works Com-tmUe?, which was adopted, recommended that the land given for road widening at Victoria terrace :iud Barton street be surveyed and transfcre completed. The Special Sanitary Cor.rmittco recora-;iien.-led that application bo made to the Minister of Finance for authority to raise the speciai lean authorised at 5\ per cent. *l also recommended that the purchase of an eiectric truck and the construction of a tank be authorised. The report was adopted. -It was decided to support a request from the Hamilton Borough Council that the Government should be urged to lift tho duty on cement, in view of the present shortage. The Elt'nam Borough Council wrote asking the Council's support in tho matter of restricting alien immigration. It was decided to support the request.
