SPARROW SHOOTING.

Tile Christchurch Gun Club hold a series of sparrow matches on Saturday. The ■weather was v.-st and the light bad, and 14 shooters faccd the traps. The first was a 7 bird pweepstakes, in which P. Maeon, W. Yates, G. Peary. D. T. Dennehy, and C. Truscott shot the ppssible and divided the slake. The nest, a 10 bird sweep (£'l entrance) was decided, 14 shooters lairing- p-art. W. Keid D. T. Dennehy, C. Tmscott, and J. Klvidge shot 9 out of a possible 10 birds and divided tho money. Mr G. N. Ormandy acUxl as handicapper and referee. PRESENTATION TO MR H. AYERS. A very pleasant function took place at th.9 last meeting: of the committee of the Christchurch Gun Club, when Mr Heney, tie treasurer presented the vice-president Mr H. Ayers, with an enlarged framed photograph of the recipient, given by the club as a, mark of appreciation of Mr Ayew's untiring efforts in promoting tho purchase of the club's ground at Sockburn. When making- the presentation Mr Heney eulogised the great work don© by Mr Avers and especially Lis persistency in advocating the acquisition of club eroimds. The property cost £17<M, said Mr Heney and though" the members assisted admirably the initiation and carrying- out of the- schema wa3 almost entirely duo to Mr Ayers's efforts. After t'ne health of Mr Ayers had been toasted with musical honours he replied and thanked the committee foT the 6plendid token of regard, which ho said he would va'.uo for all tima as a memento of his happy association with what he> ©on-siderod the finest of all sport. Ho wi?hed the club and the committee long- lira and prosperity.
