Rain put a stop to all work on the wharves oa Saturday morning. The ilancrou is to load to-day for Westport, for which port eie is expected to leave tomorrow.
The Maori brought no cargo from Wellington yesterday as she is to go into dock this morning. She will com© out on Wednesday morning-, and will take up her running ayain the same evening. Taking advantage of the southerly -weather th© Cygnet made a special trip to Okains Bay on Saturday and unloaded the largest cargo ever la«d«i at the Bay. On account of the northerly weather which had prevailed it was the Cygnet's firot visit for 15 days, and etorce weio low, particularly dairy factory requisites.' Twenty residents assisted in. discharging the cargo. The Can opus -was expected at Lyttelton at mi early hour this morning with a full lead of coal from Westport. Tiie East Coast steamer Monowai is due at Wellington to-morrow from the north, and will be the ferry bcaj, from Wellington tomorrow night. She is to leave here an Wednesday evening for Duoedin. Captain K. Hatch welL, who liaa conducted classes in navigation in Lyttelton for soma years, has now decided, owing to his -retiremeat from the New Zealand Shipping' Co., to op&n o school for the preparation of candidates in, seamanship, navigation, and namtical astronomy. The 8.1. steamer Sofala, ' under charter to the Union Steam Ship Co., is due here to-morrow from Wellington, to discharge the local portion of her eastern cargo. SHIPBDUuD-ING IN a&rEIMCA.
