A concert under the auspices oi the St. Album branch of the Protestant Political Astsociation took place in the LiacLroa bireet Methodist schoolroom cn Tuesday evening:. The chair was occupied by Mr A. D. HaseaJl. Vocal and instrumental items were contributed by Mrs Hindle, Mrs Stallard, Mrs Hudson, the-Misses Audibort, Stockdale. McDonald, Edmonds, Wright (2), Davies, and Messrs Bed welt, Greenwood, Craig 1 , Stockdale, and Roberts. An address on the objects of the Association was given by the Rev. J. Dennis. A motion waa carried approving the action cf the Council cf Churohea in directing the attention of the Prime Minister to the attitude adopted by the "TabJef* to Empire questions. LECTURE ON THE KERMADECS. A lecture on tlio ILennadsc Tq 1 -anrj <i was given last night in the Trades W--.IJ by Mr Chas. Warden, who was one of a 6cientinc party of five who visited the Islands about ten years ago, and remained there about ten months. The Islands were uninhabited except. by the Bell family, who shifted there fiom Samoa in 1879, and had it not been for the work they had undertaken to do tho party would have had a very monotonous time. The Kermjidecs. Mr Warden pointed out were annexed to New Zealand in ISS7, and are favoured with a sub-tropical climate. His remarks, which dealt principally with the flora and faun.i of the islands, were illustrated with 'numerous lantern slides, and a collection of various specimens was on view.
