CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
BREWERY EMPLOYEES' DISPUTE. Mr AV H Hanger, Concilia lion Commissioner, presided at a sitting of a Council of Conciliation yesterday, when the dispute between the. Canterbury Makters and Brevrerv Employees' • Union and tho brewery employers of Canterbury was dossed. The assessors were Messrs D. WaJseliain, W. Haase, and R. W. Walker (for tlio ■union), Messrs C. H. Hewlett, G. Hickmott, and C. J. Sloman (for tho employers), rhe Canterbury Seed Co. was amongst the parties cited. . , The Union asked for a 44-liour week, and a minimum rate of wages as follows:—Coopera £3 103, hcader-up, malthouae hands, and motor drivers £4 10s for tho first three months, and £5 thereafter; brewery, store hands, and horse drivers, £4 10s; 10s per week in addition to abovo rates for night work; casual labour, 2s per hour; overtime —time and a half fcr work done before 8 a.m., and for first three hours, and double time thereafter.
The. employers did not make any counter proposal®. A complete settlement was arrived at. It. waa agreed that night work should start between 5 and 10 p.m., and night workers should work alternately monthly; night workers to be paid 5s per week extra. "Wages wero agreed to at the' following rates on a 46-hour week:—Coopers, £4 10a per week; headers-up and malthouso hands, £4 2s 6d; brewery and bottle store hands, £3 lis 3d for first three months, and £3 15s after. A weekly bonus of lis Cd will be added to all of the abovo rates. Overtime will be paid at the rate of time and a half for first three hours, and double time after, Sunday work to be paid at rate of 3s per hour. Casual labour will bo paid for at Is 7d per hour plus a bonus of 3d. Youths engaged by the Dominion Yea«t Co. are to bo paid 7s 6d per week advance on the previous award. "Breweries are not allowed to employ youths.
