$ . ANNUAL MEETING. 'The annual meeting of tlio British and Foreign "Sailors' Sociaty was held lar.t i:1 tho Y.M.C.A. Hall, Mr F. W. Anderson presiding- over a fair attendance. In his opening re-marks tlio chairman stitst that the year's work had fccjn fa-irly quiet, except during- tho times of the- visits of tin New Zealand and Renown. Tho Institute , consistently endeavoured to attract r.ll the sailors v/ho camo to Port, ancl a pleasing feature in connexion with the work was tlio fact that so many sailors kept savings bank accounts through tho Institute. During- th: year Sir Ray Dears ley came from tho liorno Institute and stated that tho Institute had decided to send an organising: secretary to New Zealand. At the time of tho Tainui disaster th-a Institute -had boen able to render assistance to the dependants of those who perished. Tho Ladies' Guilds were thanked for th© excellent work they had dono during tlio year. Tli-a superintendent's report stated that between seven and eight thousand men had visited tho Institute during- th© past year, an average of over 700 per month. Five hundred visits had been made to ships in harbour, and forty social evenings and several picnics had been very much appreciated. Tho balance-sheet to February 29th, 1920, showed a, debit balance of £78 0s Id. Tlio report and balance-sheet wore adopted. Mrs Miller gave a 6hort account of th® work of tho Ladies' Guilds, and Mr R. S. Badger also spoke on the work of the Society. The following officers were elected for tho ensuing year:—President, Mr H. J. Millar; hon. treasurer, Mr F. W. Anderson; lion, secretary, Sir R. S. Badger; members of the board, Mesdamos Clark, Hatch well, "Wilson, Millar, Smithson, and Thompson, Captain Hatch-well. Captain Mareiel, Revs. Todd Parsons, and Hewl.inds, and Messrs Preston, Clow, Fleming, L-ewers, Thomas, and Harrison; hon. auditors, Messrs Stringer and Bridge.
