SOUTH ISLAND MOTOR UNION.

MEETING OP THE EXECUTIVE

The Executive Committee of the South Island (N.Z.) Motor Union met laot night. Present—Messrs P. W. Johnston (chairman), W. 11. Benson, N. M. Orboll, F. V. Thomas, and J. S. Hawkes.

A Isit-er was received from the Imperial Motor Co., protesting against the proposed import duty on tyres. The chairman said tho price or« tyres went up on account of the duty, and it was cojnputed that an extra £90,000 would go into the profits of wholesalers and retailed. Members agreed tiiet r. tyre tax wag the most equitable if it could be applied, and it was pointed out that taxi men would benefit in reduced upkeep if the loads were improved.* .
