CINEMA IN CHURCH.
The Rev. C'artmel-Robinson (vicar of Bedford Park), in an address a Tew weeks ago, said:—"l think there is a tendency, especially in the Protestant churchrs, to have a shut-up church, instead of making it, as'it used to be in the old times, the centre of the life of the people. Before people could read, and before they thought very much on abstract lines, tho Church taught them through pictures. As a result of our first experiment, I am convinced that the cinema has an important part to plav in the life of the Church. At our first exhibition we showed the pictures of Allenbv's entry into Jerusalem, a series depicting the life of Judith, and a few very beautiful pictures of v.oodlan I 'scc-ncry. AYo fixed a sheet over tho rood srreen. The apparatus wc used onlv costs £-50, and, in view of its portability, opens up interesting possibilities in regard to its use in churches. Film companies havo hitherto not como very much in the way of preparing sacred pictures, but as soon as there is a demand for this class of film, and it becomes profitable to produce them, there is sure to be a plentiful supply." Having been promoted from a private to the rank of lieut.-coloncl during tho war, Mr J. W. Baron, of Thorpe Bay, has returned to his prewar position of police constablo. Tho constable-colonel was mentioned in despatches and gained the Military Cross. The Chief Constable under whom ho now serves is a major.
