The Canterbury Park Trotting Club will open its -winter fixture to-morrow. Owing to the recent rain the grass track will not bp at its best. Good acceptances have boon received, and with the excellent material engaged there should be some interesting racing. JOCKEYS' DISPUTE. (TRF.S3 ASSOCIATION" TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, Juno 1. The Advisory Bcwrd of the Transport Federation has given further consideration to the jockeys' dispute, and decided not to withdraw its recommendation that racing be regarded as '"black" until tho Jockeys Association is recognised by the Racing Conference. Notice to this effect ha-s been ?ent to the committee set up by the Labour Unions to handle the dispute. • The Advisory Board considers the position has not been changed at all by the conference between the President of the Rac-. I.cg Conferpnco and certain jockeys last Saturday. These jockeys did not represent the Association, though tlie claims they submitted for discussion had been made already by tlie Association. Tho Advisory Board contends that the organised jockoys have a right to be recognised. DUNE DIN J.C.'S WINTER MEETING. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, Juno 1. The Dnnedin Jockey Club's Winter Meeting was opened to-'.lay in dull weather. Owing to the recent rains tho track was very heavy, and the attendance was poor. The pair cleared out from the field and eventually Jack Symons won easily. Of the beaten division Strayehot and King Star did best, and both will race well during the Meeting Tut iccrrin fell and hia rider, R. C. Johnston, had a leg broken. Samiel was galloping well when he fell seven furlongs from home. He is likoly to win hurdle races very shortly. Turning into the straight for tho run homo in the Brighton Handicap Checkmate looked to have the race won, but in the last furlong iw stopped, and was beaten by Bengeroop. The margin in favour of the winner was only ■Jt small one, and it might havo been the other way if Checkmate had finished more resolutely. It may have been that the distance found him out, but it looked 03 if he does not like being pressed, ■ Tho Birthday Handicap was a on© horse race. Nothing ever had a chanco with Jock from tho jump off to the end. Tho Otago Steeplechase was easily won by Master Strowan. He was kept out of the limelight for over a mile and then rushed up to the leaders. A mile from homo he was in front and remained there. Coalition was not started on account of Laving hurthimself while schooling. Palladio went very short in his preliminajry. Crib, after shirking several fences, .ran off. Early in thi> raco Zarkoma, Palladio, and Black Sea were clearly outclasssd, while Manawaponga, who finished tliird, owed his position to L. Haserty's fine horsemanship. .Tho Tradesman's Handicap was reduced to a match between Silver Peak and Radial. The former always had the better of the argument. She was always well plaood, but ■Radial, with a better run, would certainly have won.

Magdala won the Hack Steeples in a manner that suggests ho will win in better company.

. The North Island horse, All Talk, was 'sent out a good favourite for the Jumpers' Flat, but he looked light and did not race well. Hylans, on the other hand, never stripped better. Ho was very badly placed in the early stages of the race, but rushed through and was a winner four furlongs from home. He will be very hard to dispose of in his engagements.

Clean Sweep waa well supported for Iho Winter Welter and ho was beaten on his merits. Always well placed tho Advance gelding waa beaten over a furlong- from home, and evidently th« soft does not suit him. Primum looked a winner a furlong from tho post, but ho could not hold his position. SECOND DAY'S HANDICAPS.
