The Library Management Committee applied for an increased grant for tho purpo?o of paying the librarian, and aeked Iho Council to asreo to t)io sii'oecription being raised to 2s Gd per quarter. The letter was referred to tho Library Committee. It was dccided to support the resolution received from tho Stratford Borough Council, thi't the Government bo asked to make Saturday afternoon tho Dominion half-holiday.
■Support was also accordcd u resolution from tho Hawera Borough Council, that tho Government bo asked to removo tho duty from children's footwear. The Mayor, Mr J. 11. Blackwell, •was appointed the Council's representative on tho executive of the Canterbury' ProgTCes League.
Tho Housing Committee recommended that the Board of Governors of Ch.rist'3 Collego bo written to, asking if they would give tho Council an option over fivo acres of land, situated between Bavcn and Hilton streets. Tho committee also recommended that a meeting of those interested in the housing question be licid on June 9th. This waa agreed to. The receiits for tho month wero -fis lOd, and the credit balance at the bank was reported to be '£166 13 Cd.
