Tho King, accompanied by the Queen, laid the foundation stone of the new School of Economies in connexion with London University: _ ; The project has received substantial support from, London merchants, while the trustors of Sir Ernest Cassel donated £300,000. The Lord Mayor, on behalf of tho City, donated a further £50,000. Replying to the address of welcome, the King paid a tribute to tho response of the Universities to tho call of the war, and their brilliant contributions to the science of modem warfare. He emphasised that a London degree was valued far beyond the British Isles, tho advantages afforded by the resources of tho metropolis giving the University a unique influence in tho education system of tho Empire.
