» A London message says the Prohibition campaign is vigorous, in anticipation of the November elections. Labour, is generally supporting the Trade. The Jamaica Legislature lias approved of a preference duty of 40 per cent, on cotton piece goods from Great Britain and of 50 per cent, if the cotton; is grown within the Empire. The "Daily Chronicle" states that > the Government intends to discontinue the rationing of coal for homo :-onsumption, but will continue to fix prices at the pithead and control export, thus preventing a shortage in Great Britain. A Paris message says a decree has been promulgated granting a French Family Medal, in three classes:—A bronze medal for five living, legitimate children, the youngest a year old; a silver medal for eight, a silver gilt medal for ten. A moving mountain is threatening the destruction of forty houses at Maerdy, a coalmining village in Glamorganshire, AVales, on a branch of : the Taff Vale railway. The pressure is ■bulging the walls and lifting the floors of the houses. A London message says 276 bishops will attend the Lambeth Conference on July 3rd. The agenda includes discussions on Christian Science, Theosophy, Spiritualism, rare problems, and' the position of women in church administration. The "S\indav Express" states that the Government is instituting important Imperial changes whereby the Dominions' affairs will oe transferred to the Privy Council from the Colonial Office, which assumes control of the mandatory territories. A Cape Town message says the interim report of the Asiatic commission ] of enquiry states that owing to the shortage 'of rice, and other causes, large numbers of Indians are prepared to "return to India. The Commission urgently recommends the provision of j shipping to facilitate their repatriation. There is a widespread belief that King Alexander will not return _ to Grerce, owing to the public and political disapproval of his marriage. Ex-King Constnntine is leaving Switzerland for Salsomaggiore (Italy), where he will meet Alexander. It is rumoured that an prince will be offered the Greek Throne.
