VALEDICTORY GATHERING
Mr J. Smith, who haa retired from t-r«s Railway Department on superannuation, received a presentation of a travelling ru btuid a set of pipes from his fellow-workers on Saturday -nigiit. Mr Jull presided over the gathering. Musical items wore contributed by - the following::—Messrs Ashley, Todd, Dawson, Burns, Smith, Nelson, and Hannah. The following toasts wero honoured: —"A.5.R.5.," proposed by Mr Smith and responded to by Mr Gair.es; "Tho Chairman," proposed by Mr Gaines; "First Division," proposed by Mr W. Aylins ar.'i responded to by Mr Burns.
ST. ALBANS SCHOOL COMMITTEE

Harrison. Permission was given to tho Methodist Biblo Class to use the school ground for basket ball. sjxindenco from tho Education Board statc.i that Mise R. E. Bradley had been appointed assistant mistress. The Board also acknowledged the k-tter from tho householders' mooting- requesting that nominations i bo taken on tho night of tho meeting, instead of the week previous. It sympathised wi!h the spirit of the resolution, hut regretted thmt the-matter rested with the De-paruncnf. It was resolved to ask tho Board to remodel tho old infants' room to provide a shelter. The following new members were appointed by tho Board to fill the vacancics , Wt at the householders' mooting:—Meesre "Walter Dangerfield, James Froser, Joshua Harrison, and Arthur Rose. Mr Dangerfield was electod treasurer. Tho following v.'ere appointed delegate* to the School Committees' Association:—Messrs Bidwcll, Cole, and Mooxo.
