THE TUNNEL ROAD.
TO THE EDITOR OF "TIIK PRESS." Sir, —The chairman of the Port Christchufch Leaguo is reported as having stated at a meeting held the other evening that tho scheme of a tunnel road was being engineered by tho motor importers for their especial benefit. It is always deplorable that public spenkers should resort to making misstatements when endeavouring to make their own ease good. For tho j benefit of the public generally, lot mo i shito this fact: The Christchurch-Lyt-tolton Tunnel Road League comprises business men of all callings in life, and there is only one motor importer in its membership. Let me ask J>r. Thackcr how the Tunnel road is going to benefit I the motor importers any moro than the j Port scheme, as goods in either case ! will naturally be handled by the most economical and efficient methods— modern motor traction. Let me, in conclusion, advise Dr. Timelier that even if he cannot put up a good case for his scheme, ho might at least "play j the game," stick to facts, and try to remember that "truth will out." —■ Yours, etc.. J. MAWSON STEWART, Hon. Secretary, Tunnel Road League.
