A SERIOUS STEP. APPREHENSION IN BRITAIN.
(United Service.) LONDON, April 6. Tho French occupation of Frankfort and Darmstadt is regarded with apprehension in the highest British circles. A leading British diplomatist states that France's action will probably crystallise the warring elements in Germany, and create tlio most serious menace to France since the Armistice. Lord Derby, Ambassador in Paris, conferred witn Lord Curzon, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and left for Paris. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received April 7th, 10.15 p.m.) LONDON, April 6. The Australian Press Association learns that M. Millerand will preside at to-day's Council of Ambassadors at Paris. It is hoped to compose the differences between the Allies with regard to France's action.. It is understood that Britain and America have not vet accepted the view that the Reichswehr's advance constitutes a breach of the Peace Treaty, which did not contemplate a military advance in order to suppress insurgents, but merely military action constituting a menace to France. It is asserted in diplomatic circles that Britain, as recently as Monday, reiterated the opinion to Franco that precipitate action should not be taken, fhorefore, the French advance has surprised the British Government, and has resulted in an extremely delicate, if not serious, situation among the Allies.
