Mr A. Henley, of Cashmere has arrived back in Onristchurch after a visit to Dxinedin.

Mr John Murray, I>eputy-Commis-sicner of StampSj arrived in Christchurch last night to take up his duties here. On Tuesday afternoon the Dunedin office staff said good-byo to their chief, and mado him a presentation. In the evening the members of the St. Clair Presbyterian Church session and Board of Managers, with their wives, entertained Mr and Mrs Murray at a social gathering.

Tho many friends of Mr F. J. Needham, who has been in Lewisham private hospital for the past fortnight, will be glad to learn that he is 'well enough to bo able to leave the hospital to-day for his home. Mr Needliam will go to Akaroa for two or three weeks to recuperate. Mr M. H. Godby, who has been on a visit to England, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Tho Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association decided at its meeting last night, on the motion of Mr H. B. Sellers, to place on record its highest appreciation of the servicos of Mr C. S. McCully to amateur athlctics in Canterbury," Mr Sellers stating that Mr McCully's efforts to resuscitate the sport had been invaluable, and that in threo or four months he had worked wonders. In briefly responding Mr McCully said that tho success of recent gatherings and the men he met in connexion with the sport, -were sufficient recompense for anything he had done.
