THE LYTTELTON SEAT.
TO twk Ki>rroi» or "th* rnr««" Sir, —Permit me to Bay that "Opawa Liberal" is Bomewhat rnsh when ho states that outside Lyttolton itwlf Mr Lester will secure only a sprinkling of votes. Nothing has given nis tee more encouragement than the 6P°n-t-rrniis wf>lr"iTnos w'>irh hav> t"*opf<"T Mr Lester's every appearance in tho outlying districts, and :\s hia committee hns been represented at all su"h meetings, it is reasonable to assume that its members ore in a much position to gauge the trend of opinion in those districts than is one who is not so favourably placed as your correspondent, 'Onnwa Liberal," while Mr Lexer's bakers are on tho spot, and are consequently much better judges of _ local opinion than one who obtains h : s jnformation from other sources. Oxing to hU local connexion, Mr Lester commends himself to such doctors as prefer for their representative one who by 10-"r r»»c : d f% n"o f.VirnwwrMy rn"vp''c^r, < . with tho needs of the district, and who is at the simp time able to give to his views concisely and clearly. For these reasons, not to mention his stn-dy Liberalism, Mr Lester and his active supporters are satisfied thr»t thoir candidate will regain for the Liberal Party the sent which for irony years was identified with the late Mr* Goo. Laurenson. To thnt end tVy are devoting all their energies, and tho promiso of support which they havo received in tho outlving nnd country districts warrants them, despite "Opawa Liberal," believing that this end will bo attained.— Yours, etc., GEO. RUTHERFORD. Lyttolton.
