NEW ZEALAND BUILDINGS IN SYDNEY.
♦ (ntOH OUR OWN COERESrONDEJTT.) SYDNEY, November 27. A magnificent now building, known is Union House, has been crected by the Union Steam Ship Company at tho corncr of George and Grosvenor streets. It is pf 14 storeys, and it rises to the full height permitted by the building regulations. It is 150 feet from tlw street to the parapet. It will be roady for occupation early in tho new year. Tho building dominates that section of the ritv by its colour us well as by'its size. From a distance it appears quite white —an effect achieved with facings of terra cotta brought from San Francisco. The building has several new features. One is n ventilating Kystem, which renews the air in the whole of tho building eight times every hour. Another is an arrangement by which this fireproof building, if threatened by fire from its neighbours, can be' prctected by a barrage or curtain r>f water. The basement and the first two floors comprise thv_ magnificent offices which will be occupied by the Union Company and the P. and O. Company. Another fine new building in cour.te of ereetscn is at tho corner of Hunter and O'Connell streets, opposite the ancient offices of the_ "Sydney Morning Hca'd." This edifice is for tho Suith British Insurance Company, and, from w';at little can !k> seen r.f it nw, it promises <t-o do credit to t!ie New Zealand corporation. Anotaer building which New Jsoalanders can contemplate with pride is that of th« New Z-aln-id Insurance Com!)any. in Lower Pitt street. It stands out with distinction from among a number ef notable blocks in this wellknown business section.
