At yesterday's meeting of the Chnstchorcii j)o:nain Board Lhe chairman. Mr 11. J. Beswick, brought up the question of the state of the Board's finances, stating that he thought the time had arrived for the rates on local bodies to bo raised, so as to enable the Baard to carry out the work they were there to do. He thought that Parliament should be applied to for permission to increase tlie rates. Mr E. J. Howard moved that the Board write to the various local bodies, stating that it intended to apply to Parliament for permission to raise rates amounting to £5300. Everybody, he said, was in favour of the idea of a garden city, but without adequate funds it was impossible to carry it out. Several members thoucht that Mr Howard's motion wa3 too drastic, and would be sure to meet with serious opposition from the local bodies. The motion was not seconded.
