INTEREST IN ORIENT LINE ACQUIRED. (By Cable—Prwn Association—Copyright.) C"The • (Received November 30th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, November 29. The P. nnd O. Steain Navigation Company reports that it has secured a lareo shareholding interest in the Orient Steam Navigation Co., Ltd. The Orient Line will continue to worl: as a separate concern. (The Orient Steam Navigation Co., Ltd.. holds the Commonwealth Government's mail contract for the carriage of Australian mails to England. Its fleet at present consists of the Ormonde, a turbine steamer of 1-1.853 tons gross register, built in 1917. the Orontes, 9023 tons, built in 1902, and the Orsova. 12,036 tons. Orvieto, 12.130 tons, and Osterlev, 12.129 tons, all built in 1909. Of its pre-war fleet tho Orama, Otranto, and Otway, which were employed as auxiliary cruisers, were sunk during the war. In addition to its main fleet of over SO larce mail and carsro ships, and its "branch service" of five steamers, tho Peninsula and Oriental Steam Navigation Company controls the British-India Steam Navigation Compnnv, tho New Zealand Shipping Companv." the Federal Line, the Union Steam Ship Co. of New Zealand, and several minor lines.]
