The highest output in a, day was 58 yards, and the average cost was is lid per cubic yard. I Tho clerk presented the half-yearly bal-ance-sheet, which had been du'.y audited and certified as correct. There was a, debit on September 30th of A'6ll 17s 9d. A lesolution was carried, on tho motion of the chairman, placing on record an appreciation of tho manner in which the accounts cf tho county wero being kept by the clcrk, Mr H. Ncale. Tho clerk, in his monthly report, stated that various patching and blinding repairs had been carried out durinir tho month. Jlr E. Macartney had started his metalling contract in Grccnpark riding on the 24ih. The main road toward Motukarara. was in bad order owing to tho long delay in getting the shingling contract- carried out. He had givc-n instructions to have some repairs mado as soon a-3 possible with broken metal. He suggested that the cocksfoot cutting rights oil the roads shou'.rl be let in good time, f cme of the gorae-cloaring notices sent out had been complied with, but in other cases little ir nothing had been done. It was decided to call tender? for the cocksfoot cutting rights on the roads, returnable within fourteen days. A committee was appointed to deal with tho tenders. The Council de/'.idcd to take steps to have goree-clearing notices complied with. Cr. Yarr asked that as soon as labour wa3 available the cleaning of the lower river should bo proceeded with. The clerk undertook to put the -work ill liand as soon as possible. On the motion of Cr. Kimo it was decided to clear tho Council's reserve at Gallagher's corner, and tho road, frontago of gorsa and broom. Cr. Yarr said he understood the Council Tire! decided two years ago to repair the "Willowe road, but that owing to the' scarcity of labour the work had not been done. He would like to seo repairs carried out before next winter. It was ajrr-cd that this work should he done when labour was nvailabio^ The condition of a. drain od tho Embankment road was mentioned by Cr. Yarr, but it wa3 stated that tho drain was not under the Council's control. Another matter mentioned by Cr. Yarr was tho now! of filling in holes on tho road between McYickers' aaid "Watson's land. Cr. Stalker suggested that some gorse cleaving should be done on Jervis's road boforo the metalling, which was authorised a good whilo ago, was carricd out. This was agreed to.
AKAROA. Tlift statutory annual meeting of th« Aka<roa County Council was held fit DuvaucheUo on Wednesday. Present: Messrs J. B. Thacker, J. D. Bruce, E. Hay, T. Stewart, and C. B. Thacker. On the motion of Mr Bruce, seconded hy Mr Stewart, Mr J. B. Thacker was unanimously re-eiocted chairman. Mr Thacker acknowledged the honour conferred upon him, and extended a cordial welcome to Mr Hay on his return to tho Council tablo. At tho ordinary meeting which followed, tho Council, on tho motion of Mr Bruce, placed on record its deep regret at. tho death of Nurse Ensor, who hud rendered such splendid service at tho Akaroa, Hospital during tho epidemic ox last year, and extended its sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. In reply to tho Council, Mr J. A. Froatick wrote stating that ho deemed it inadvisable for local Committees of Advice to deal with soldiers' applications ' for aesistauco to either tho Repatriation Board or the ] Patriotic Fund. Tho appointment of live trustees for the Wainui Cemetery, as recommended by tho locaj p'otholders, was confirmed. Tho Wairewa, County Council was informed that Akaroa's crusher would bo availablo for work at Little River when the local crushing-, now under way, was completed. The Marino Department wrote advising that £275 had boon voted towards defraying the cost of creating a small wharf at Onuku, and sekius if tho Council would undertake ths work. It was left- to Mr Bruce to sco if the residents would provido the halancc of the estimated cost heforo taking further action. Messrs Harper and Pascoo wrote, slating that further delay in tho constitution of the Eleotric Power Board bad arisen through a misunderstanding regarding the boundary between Mt. Herbort County and tho Diamond Harbour Settlement. The Inspector-Goneral of Agriculture forwarded a copy of conditions under which a resident inspector of noxious weeds would he appointed. It was screed that the chairman should confer with tho "Wairewa County Council in tho matter and report to next meeting.
