New York, carrying out a lightning strike, the 10,000 persons employed in this skyscraper had to use the stairs. 'There are fifty flights. During the afternoon gallant spirits having business in the building faced the climb to the tipper stories, but before long the stairs were littered with people in various stages of exhaustion. One man Is reported to have struggled as far as the 38th floor, his appointment being in an office on the 4oth. Then he cave up. The Metropolitan Building, 700 feet high, i$ the tallest in the United States.
