WAIMATE.
The Waimate Returned Soldiers' Association passed a resolution calling upon the Government to introduce legislation depriving profiteers of their civil rights. Mr W. R. McKean. nowly-nppointed Magistrate, was welcomed in the "Waimate Court yesterday by Mr S. I. Fitch, on behalf of the law practitioners. _ The Wnimatc Acclimatisation Society (Mr Middleton) sued lieiiry Crust (Mr Ongley). of Dunedin, for 14s 6d ground rent of his fisherman's hut, on a. reserve near the mouth of the "Waitaki. He and nino others object- to pay, contending that the Society has no power to levy such rent. Evidence was given by F.* Nash, president of the Society, in support, of the claim, and by Crust for .the dcfencc. Judgment was reserved.
