PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
| - • i QUESTION OF EXPENDITURE. At last night's meeting of the City Council, Cr. Agar drew attention to tho fact that tho sum of about £800 had been spent in Peace celebrations over the £2000 allotted by the Council, and asked for an explanation. Cr. Flesher said that the Mayor was the chairman of the Peace Celebrations Committee. He understood that the money had been spent on decorations. Or. Agar said tnat the Council had given authority to spend a certain sum, Deyond whitL expenditure should cease. He suggested that tho committee should pay the amount they had spent oyer that voted to them. Ho would oppose ] tho ratepayers having to pay the money. It was decided that the Peace Cele- I brations Committee should be asked for i an explanation.
