Tho amount was passod for pay"tJig New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association forwarded .a copy of its land scheme and aslted the Council to - support it. Tho Council adopted tho resolution passed, at 'tho previous meeting authorising tho levying of a general rate of 3d in tho £ on the unimproved value of all property in tho , borough. • , , 1 The Works Committee's report waa adopted, and it was dccided to tar tho East belt. The gaa manager reported that, owing to tho poor quality of tho coal, it was impossible to produce good gas. However, some I trood coal had now come to hand. It was decided to put notice boards round I the flowsr beds in Victoria Park, warning ' tho public to avoid walking on them, ana I also to procure a receptacle for wae>« paper. The Gaa and Lighting- Committee wore appointed to confer with the County Council with regard to the maintenance of tho electrical eyetcm. . . I Building permits for houses in Eyio street, ' Good street, and Queen etrejt, and aleo fori l a hall and offices for the northern A and I P Association in Cono .street, o£ a. total value of £4500, were issued.
