SEAMEN'S DISPUTE.

PROPOSAL REJECTED. (By Cable.—Preas Association. —CoDyrijrM.) (Australian and C"bl<> Association.) MELBOURNE, July 25. The Federal Government rejected the Union Conference's proposal for a strike conference, and Ca&inet is now considering a further proposal from the conference for a settlement. Walsh (secretary of tho Seamen's Union, who has been imprisoned) haa started a hunger strike. ANOTHER BALLOT SUGGESTED. ADELAIDE, July 25. The Seamen's Federation passed a resolution favouring a further ballot on the question of arbitration. If the result favours arbitration, the Federation will not enter the court until tho officials in gaol are released.
