THE HOUSING PROBLEM.
TO THE EDITOR 0» "THX PBESS." Sir,—Much is being said on this suttject, and many efforts ure being made Ito solve the problem, but one of the , simplest and most economical as regards space seems to bo utterly left out. I refer to flats aa utilised in the Old Country and elsewhere, and proved to bo most satisfactory. For the poor tha model houses in London are clean and cheap, and for the better off, flato ofl three four, five, or more rooms, with kitchen and bathroom, would supply, the crying need of many, and do away with a good deal of the vexed question or outside labour. They can be quite simple, with lifts, automatio or othor- ! wise, separate and no matter how -many flats in the building. Thoro are, ideal sites in the city Tor them. It will make my letter too long to go further into details, but a sugeestioa !to the Mayor, also Mr Hurst Seager, might bring about good results, ana relieve the present state of congestion and overlapping. Honing my suggestion will not fall flat. —
