IMMIGRATION SCHEME.
NEED FOR FEMALE LABOUR.
The shortage of female labour in its relation to tne secondary industries will be discussed at a meeting, convened by tho Auckland Provincial industrial Association, to be held this week. A number of resolutions will be submitted to the meeting by the executive of tuo Association. 'mesa will propose tnat in view of tho "disastrous euect of tno shortage of female labour in the development of local industries," the Government should be askeil to consider a scheme of selected immigration, ihe following scheme is outlined with a view to ensuring success: —A committee of five or more practical men and women, approved by the Industrial Corporation or iNew Zealand, should bo set up, accredited by the Government and commissioned to proceed to Great uritain for the purpose of selecting suitable immigrants; this commission should be in lull possession of all tho fact, conditions of labour required, nature of the work to bo done, wages to be paid, and enabled to state definitely to prospective immigrants whore tliov can be placed in permanent omplovment; employers must be prepared to give a binding undertaking to state what number of hands they requiro, and to find employment for such number at a stated scale of remuneration as soon as such hands arrive in the Dominion. It is added that an essential part of the schomo would be tho provision of suitable housing accommodation, and it is suggested that the Government be requested to organise a scheme which will meet this necessity.
