9 . MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The Geneial Committee of the St. John Ambulance Association, Canterbury and West Cou3t Contre, mot last the president (Mr A. E. U. presiding over an attendance of ten members. The Hon. ,G. "\V. Russell, Minister of Public Health, wrote staling that nurses had been appointed by the Department to bo stationed at each public health centre (not St. John Ambulance centre), whose duties would bo not only the teaching of heme nursing, b.it also other health work. The services of these nnrs.s had been offered to tho Association, and al.-o to the V. omen's National Kcsoive. There V.C3 no intention to interfere with the- wo:': the St. John Ambulance Brigade had alrcr.cly started, but tho instruction given by certificated m'.mbeis of tho Brigade was scarcely e uivalont to that given by a qualifie-d nurse, and the Departtherefore could not divert llie amount of salary and maintenance for trained nuraea to the scheme outlined by the Asfociatioa. The letter was received. A sub-committee was appointed to discusa plans for the new building. Dr. H. T. J. Thacker flavor) wrote accepting anpoi :tment as a vico-prc3idcnt of the Association. The Minister of Public Il'-r.!!h wrote ex pressing appreciation of tho mariner in which ambulance work was conducted in Christchurch. A letter from tho Auckland Centre, deal jn«r with teachers givirg instruction in firs' aid in the primary echools, was referred to the coming Conference. |
