Mr Hugo Friedlander proposes to leave Ashburton next montii to take up his residence in Auckland. Steps are being taken to recognise Mr Friedlander's public service to the borough and county. The induction of the Rev. J. D. Webster as minister of Sb. David's Presbyterian Church, Sydenham, will take place to-night, at 7 o'clock, and will be followed by a welcome social to Mr and Mrs Webster. A London cable message states that at the Cold Storage Association's dinner, Sir Thomas Mackenzie, alluding to a reference to the termination of his term as High Commissioner for Now Zealand, said he did not desire a renewal for a short period. A long period would strengthen his position in view of the importance of tho work still to bo done. Mr Thomas Auton, A.1.A., N.Z., who is at present a Warrant Officer attached to N.Z.E.F. Headquarters, London, has been admitted a member of the Charterod Institute of Secretaries of Great Britain. Previous to his enlistment for active service, in 1915, he was secretary of the Wellington Accountant Students' Society. Captain A. M. Wright, who returned by the Rimutaka. has again taken up his position as chemist for the No™' Zealand Refrigerating Company, at their Islington works.
