CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET,

At the annual meeting of members of the Canterbury Jockey Club the following report and balance-sheet will be presented: — The committee, iu cubmitting the balanceeheet can again congratulate members upon a satisfactory year's operations. Notwithstanding an increase of £10CO in stakes, and practically all working expense*, the profit is only about £1250 lees than in the previous year Arrangements are being made to mstal the Julius totalizator, which the committee hope to have working at the Grand National Meeting. The year has been one of more than usual misfortune in the passing away of several of our members, and wo have particularly to regret the loss of Mr C W Reid, who, ever eince he camo to Chris tchurch in 1908, took the keenest interest in the welfare of the club, a-nd iij>on his election to -the committee tho following vear ungrudgingly gavo hi« tune, whilo hie advice and organising ability was of the greatest value to his brother committeemen. Another severe lose wa* that of our late judge Mr W. H. Halt frill, who, since 1900, had carricd out his duties with extraordinary ability and satisfaction to the club and tho public. Mr Hartgill wae not only a valuable offioer but wae a warm friend and companion. Tho requisite number having been nominated for the offices of stewards, committee, and hon. treasurer, no election is neoeeeary.
