OPERA HOUSE. The high standard of vaudeville at tho Opera House is being greatly appreciated this week, and last evening tho popular theatre was again well filled. On the present bill thero are some first-class artists, and Pollard and Jackson, and Raynor and Brennan, operatic vocalists, would by themselves be well worth the price of admission, but there are, in addition, many other outstanding turna. Tho Faynea givo a marvellous exhibition of oontortionism, mingied ■Willi pleasing music; Victor tho Great and his satellites are tho "last word" in ventriloquism and mysticism; Lily Vockler is to be heard in tuneful chorus songs; the Delavale Bros, are inimitable in their latest version of "Chaplinitis"; Emerson andHubtO ore as diverting as ever; and Kay and Gray develop eome good "cross-talk" work. Tonight the same artists will appear. GLEE AND MADRIGAL SOCIETY. The programme in rehearsal by tho choir of tho Chrislchurch Glee and Madrigal Society, under Mr Sidnoy Williamson', lor the fourth conoert of the 1918 season, to be given in the Art Gallery on Monday evening next, promises success. Included are the part eongs "Brilliant Butterfly" (Campra), a. June Rose Bloomed" (Coleridge-Taylor), "Stars of the Summer Night" (West), Ji'he Sweet Little Girl and the Quaint Squeegee" (Warner), "When the Leaves are Turning Gold" (Donizetti),, and "The Spiiu.ia = ' Chorus" (Wagner), for tho femalo voices of the choir. The Madrigal "In, Going to my Lon«ly Bed" (Edwards. 1560), "Invocation to Sleep" (Benedict), "The Land of the Sun" (Coleridge Taylor), "The Maiden, of the 'Flour de Lys'" (Sydenham), "O Happy £.ves" (Elgar), part songs for combined voices, and the motets '"Adoramus Le" and "Jesus bulcis" (Vittoria, 1540-1605. Tho box plan is at Messrs Milner and Thompson s. LIBERTY THEATRE. Mabel Normand, the alluring, is the chief attraction at the Liberty Theatre in ' Bask to the Woods." There is a fcood supporting programme, which will be repeatea to-day and to-night. STRAND THEATRE. In "Stella Maris" Mary Pickiord is Been at her best. This charming play has excellent support, and the bill will be repeated to<lav and to-night. GRAND THEATKE. At the Grand Theatre there is a big double star programme running, including May Allison in "The Return of Mary' and Chariea Chaplin, in "His New Job." The Mame programme will be repeated to-day and to-n.ght.
CHARLES CHAPLIN AT THE "GRAND."
Lovers of Charles Chaplin tnould be delighted with hi® new comedy, "Triple Trouble," which will bo shown lor the lust time in this city at the Gnu.d Thcatro next week. The action is said to be last oud furious, there being 110 end of mix-ups with the famous comcdian's comic antics overtopping all. Edna Purviance, Leo, White, and other notables of his cast add to the fun. In this picture Charlie occupice tho humble post of janitor in the home of an eccentric inventor, and he is enabled at tho end to prevent spies stealing a wonderlul new wireless 'xploaive. It is stated that Chaplin introduces many new stunts in this film, which brings roars of laughter. Tho box plan is now open at the Bristol. QUEEN'S THEATRE. "A Game with Fate," starring Harry Morey, and "False Friends," .with Gail jkane in the lead, are two of the siar features at tho Queen's Theatre. They will be shown et all 6css:oE3 to-day with first-rate support. CRYSTAL PALACE. gorgeous spectacle of tho ancient Aztec civilisation, which is shown in The "Woman God Forgot" with "The Bride of Fear" and strong- support, makee up a fino programme at -Crystal Palace. The bill will be repeated at all sessions to-day. SYDENHAM PICTURES. "Back to tho Woods," starring Mabel Normand, and "The Within," in winch Olga PetroTa leads, aro the main attractions at tho Sydenham Pictures this week. THE COLOSSEUM. Sleeting, healthful and invigorating, continues to be splendidly patronised at tho Co.oeseum funk, which will be open as usual to-day and to-night.
