♦ ASHBURTON. Tho Ashburton Borough Council met laat r.ight, the Mayor (Mr I>. Galbraiih} presiding. it was reported that tho overdraft nowstood at £3:200 Is Id. Correspondence was received from the Postal Department regretting that it could 3M>t accede to the Council's request for withdrawals to bo made from Post Office Savings bank accounts direct from Aabbuiton. A deputation from the tar-cab proprietors iaked that tho by-laws should bo amended to provide for a minimum rats of 2s, and &lco that licenses should be restricted to residents, with tho proviso that tho holder of a license must become a resident of the district within four miles of the Post Office within three months. Tho matters were referred to' tho By-laws Committee. The Ashburton Bowling- Club applied for permission to lay down two new greens on the site known as the hockey ground. The application wa<* favourably considered, but it r.-as decided that a committee should visit the aito and report at tho nsrt meeting of the Council. i ——~———
