MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
THE CHRISTCHURCH CAMPAIGN
Ih\ Thacker, M.P., a candidate for tho Mayoralty, will address meetings to-night in the Hibernian Hall, and at the Linwood school. On Monday Lo will speak to employees of tho Kaiapoi factory at noon, and will address a meeting at the Bcckenhain school at 7.30 p.m., and nnothor meeting in tho Solwyn street- Hull at 8.30 p.m. On Tuesday he will speak at tuo Goods Sheds. CarJyle street, at noon, aad at St. Saviour's schoolroom at 7.30 p.m., .finishing up with an addross at tho Wallham school, at 8.30 p.m. Mr J. McCombs, M.P., Labour candidate for tho Mayoralty, will address the electors in the Choral Hall, on Monday night, at 8 o'clock. Cγ. E. J. Howard and Mr G. Manning, candidates for the Central Ward, will also speak. Mr MeCombs and tho Sydenham Labour candidates will speak on Tuesday night, at 8 o'clock, in St. Saviour's schoolroom, Quebn street, Sydenham. Messrs D. G. Sullivan, H. F. Herbert, and H. Huntjr, Labour candidates for tho City Council, will address • the electors at the corner of Armagh street and Trnvers street, and also at tho cornor of Charles street and Graf ton street to-night, at 8 p.m. Mr T. H. Harkor, the Port Christchurch League's candidate for the Lyttelton Harbour Board, will speak tonight at' tho Hibernian Hall, at 7.30 o'clock, and at Linwood school, Milo road, at 8.15 o'clock. Dt. Thaoker, a candidato for tho Mayoralty, will also address the meetings.
SOLDIERS' VOTES. Tho Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, stated yesterday that a couple of days ago he had received a telegram from Dr. Thacker, M.P.* , asking that tho soldiers returning, and those who had come of ago while onectivo service, should liavo a municipal vote nt the coming elections. The matter, on which an urgent reply has been rcqiiosied. had boon referred to the Internal Affairs Department,- nnd the reply, which he had conveyed to. Dr. Thacker, was as follows: "There is r° existing authority to allow persons to voto at the municipal olections unless their names aro on tho roll. _ Municipal'ties have already been advised that soldiers' namns should not bo doletod from the rolls on account of absence from tho Dominion whilo serving tho country. Thoir names must, however, lie on* tho roll bnforo they can vote. Tho rolls have now Hosed, and no provision exists in tho law to enable new enrolments to bo now made."
