His Excollency the Governor-General and the Countess of Liverpool arrived at Auckland from Rotorua a few days ago, and took up thoir residence at Government House. They expect to romain in Auckland for several weeks. Sir Douglas Mawson, tho Antarctic explorer, who has been engaged in war work in London, has returned to Australia. % Mr Justice Herdman, wlio has been holiday-making in the Worth Island, is duo to return to Christchurch to-mor-row. The Rev. H. Spencer arrived in Christchurch on Thursday. Ho the newly-appointed minister of th© Methodist Churches in Linwood, Shirley, and Marshland. Captain J. C. Johnson N.Z.M.C., returned by the hospital ship Mnfceno. Captain Johnson, who has boen working as bacteriologist on tliQ vessel, has returned to resume duty as professor of biology at the Auckland University College. ( Constable A. McGregor, who has boen stationed at Nelson for the past Hi years, and for the past two or threei years has been doing plain-clothes work, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant', and will take up duty at tho Central Police Station in Wellington.
The Rev. W.Simmonds, of the Methodist College at Three Kings, near Auckland, who is an authority on giirn trees, is visiting Mr T. W. Adams's estate nt Greendale, and is inspecting the well-known plantations of foreign trees there. Professor J. Macmillan Brown will Je.nvo Christchurch in June for his annual visit to Pacific' islands, to continue hi-i ethnological and anthropological studies. This year ho has selected the Tokelau Archipelago, north-east of Samoa, as the subject of investigation. Lieut.-Colonel E. E. Porritt. N.Z.M.C., of Wanganui, who returned, to New Zealand in charge of tho troops on tho hospital ship Jlalieno, has seen a great deal of war service, having been attached to the Mahono during four voyages overseas. Liout.-Colonel Porritt also notable s'lvice to tho military authorities as president of tho Special C 2 Medical Board in New Zealand, and as representative of the Dircc-tor-Genernl of Medical Services in medical recruiting matters. At Wellington yesterday, SurgeonGeneral Henderson, who leaves for Sydney by the Moeraki on Monday, en route for England, was presented by the Defence Headquarters Staffs and Medical Services, civilian medical practitioners and civilians, with a number of greenstone and other articles. 3>r. Elliott, in making the presentation, oxpressed the genuine regret of tho donors at Dr. Henderson's departure, and eulogised his work. Sir James Allen and General Robin also paid tributes.
