(Court Star of Dunaandel) was nbssnt, but his place was filled by Bro. J. H. Skinner. Court Thistle of the Forest, Sydenham, was represented by Bro. F. Wiseman, an apology being accepted, on sufficient explanation, for the absence of his colleague, Bro. Hoddiuott. Courts Loburu and Rakaia. were not represented, owing , to the pressure of work in the rural districts at the present season. Tho opinion waa expressed that the practice of Court Dunaandel ia providing a substitute in caao of emergency might bo followed with advantage in similar cases. A vote of condolence with Bro. Sheat and his family, in their lose, wae passed in eilence. and tho names of four uged members of Court Queen of the Isles, Bros. Mann, Tredennick, Baker, and AVeaetell, were similarly honoured. The laat-named had been the first C.K. of bis Court, in 1861, an office ho filled five times, and at his death had been a member of the Order 5S years. Tho report' of tho executive expressed satisfaction at tho undiminished membership of the district, despite a high mortality, the Lyttelton branch showing unueual progress, and by acclamation tho silver medal of tho district was voted to Bro. Glasson, who had introduced fifteeu iiew members 'dufing tho year. Successful visits had beeu paid to Courts at Ashburton and Greendalo during tho half-year, and a request from the latter Court to bold periodical meetings at Hororata wae sanctioned by the district officers. From nearly every Court canio statements of heavy drains alike on funeral and management funds; and a remit from. Court Dunsandel urged that the question of re-allocat-ing contributions should be taken in hand at once. A long discussion followed, and, on the motion of Bro. Phaup, seconded by . Bro. Marks, it was decided to reply that no j readjustment would sufficiently meet the case, | increased funds being the only alternative. The report and balance-sheet were adoptd._ Several communications from the Registrar of Friendly Societies referred to the action, or proposed action, of the Department regarding discharged eoldiere, and their relationship to tho societies of which they were members, and a circular from. Auckland called attention to the eerioue position created by discharge before adequate recovery. The Canterbury Friendly Societies' Council wroto resardircr, the advisability of a separate war memorial to fallen soldieie, but tho meeting, on the motion of Bro. A. E. Lane, seconded by Bro. Jacobsen, decided that no action bo taken, the members considering that the best form of war memorial would be a permanent Canterbury institution, for men entirely disabled. The question of taking part in tne proposed peace celebrations was also raised, and it was urged that, as nearly every place would bold its own individual function, the district as a whole could hardly bo expected to find funds for a Christclmrch display only. Bro Marks moved, "That tho cost of any Court participating at any point in a public dieplay should be shared between such Court and the district," which wae carried by a larp-e majority. The election of officers for the ensuing year tl-en took place. Bro. J. Coleman ae D.C.K., Bro A E. Lane os D.5.C.8., and Bro. Tanner as District Auditor were unanimously elected. Four candidates contested tne position of D.8., to which Bro. F E. Footo (Court Papanui) was finally elected. Afte* the installation of the new officera, an invitation to hold tho nest meeting at Kaiapoi was received from the local Court, and accepted. At the close the visiting members wer« «n----tertained by the Lyttelton Lodgo.
