WOMEN STOWAWAYS.
Woman has been proving herself to be as competent a stowaway as man; for the recent discovery of two women stowaways in a Transatlantic liner Jβ by no means an isolated .case. .. lumbers of similar instances passed unnoticed in the excitement of the war. The most curious was that of the young wivee of two American officers, who wero refused permission to visit France, and beguiled the member of a cargo boat, bound for France, to smuggle them on board. They were secreted among sacks of flour in the hold of the vessel, and supplied by the friendly sailor -with blankets and food, # but when tho voyage -was almost finished a torpedo struck tho ship and they were discovered. They failed m their pilgrimage after all, being detained at a port and sent home at the first opporA similar case was that of an English girl engaged to a Dutchman, whom sho wished to visit. She managed to secrete herself among some lumber in a ship bound for Amsterdam. This vessel was also torpedoed, and the girl, with tho rest of the crew, was nicked up by a fishing smack and taken to Gratriden, but an unromantic Consul immediately sent her home.
